College Application Tools
- Academic Index Calculator. Used by Ivy League colleges to summarize the academic performance of applicants.
- College Confidential. This web site contains a lot of information for college application.
Some discussions are written in Chinese (See here).
- FinAid! The Smart Student Guide to Financial Aid.
This web site is the most comprehensive source of student financial aid information, advice and tools.
On the page titled No Loans for Low Income Students
there is a table that lists how much tuition a family needs to pay to a particular college based on the income level of the family.
In this table the first column shows the names of the colleges, the second one what financial aid rules are applied, the third one the family income criteria, and the fourth one the years when the financial aid rules were initiated.
Quote from a parent: "Most people have a misconception about that it is extremely expensive to send a kid to an Ivy League school. As a matter of fact, for those families with an income under $200K to $300K they may only need to pay at most $10K+ per year for sending kids to Harvard, Princeton, or Yale. Finaid.org is a great web site that offers a lot of information on that. I encourage other parents to check it out."
